If you have less than 10 feedback you need to contact me to verify your bid.   Thomas Russell & Son LIVERPOOL 48mm PAT. No. 20254 PATENT CENTRE SECONDS CHRONOGRAPH 9ct ROSE GOLD POCKET WATCH 1923 *GREAT CONDITION!* A very unusual Patent Chronograph by this reknown British firm.   The signed white enamel dial is in near perfect condition and signed; CENTRE SECONDS CHRONOGRAPH by THOS RUSSELL & SON LIVERPOOL   It has gold spade hands with fine blued steel serpentine centre seconds. The dial has bold black Roman numerals and an outer chapter ring marked off in 1/5 second increments.  There is one faint surface craze running horizontally from the 57 second mark to the 7 second mark that I have tried to highlight in the enlarged photograph.  The glass is the original thick bevelled one.   The watches solid 9ct ROSE GOLD case is in excellent condition.  This is a Thomas Russell made case with Dennisons patent safety bow and snap fit front with hinged back. All covers open and close correctly. The case has a smooth finish with the original owners initials decoratively engraved to the back along with the date 16.1.24. There is no evidence of damage or abuse and no repairs.            The 9ct gold case is fully hallmarked for Chester 1923 with casemakers mark TR&S for Thomas Russell & Son. This is a good-sized gentleman’s pocket watch with the case measuring 48mm in diameter. It has excellent weight to it.  The inner dustcover is also solid gold and properly hallmarked. There is a small central pin sized crease to the dustcover; this is caused by the central bridge on the movement and is not damage or abuse. Please see the images of the movement and you will see a small bridge cap to the centre pinion that is very slightly proud of the rest of the movement plates. The winding and setting motions are extremely positive with no evidence of wear. A thoroughly delightful piece to use.   The movement is extremely unusual in layout as can be seen. This has polished nickel plates with inset gold lettering, screwed down gold jewel collars, cut bi-metallic compensated balance and a bright steel precision regulator. The escapement is a 15 jewel straight line lever adjusted to 3 positions.   The movement again is in near IMMACULATE condition.  This is currently winding and running perfectly. It is clearly signed;   PAT. No. 20254 THOS RUSSELL & SON LIVERPOOL 4908 SWISS MADE 15 JEWELS ADJUSTED TO 3 POSITIONS     The movement roared into life with just a turn on the crown and has been running perfectly ever since. As this piece has been dry stored for many years I would recommend a routine service for best performance. At the moment it is winding, setting and running perfectly.  Despite clearly being signed as a ‘Chronograph’ there is no stop-start facility. This hasn’t been removed and there is no evidence of any alteration to the movement. So far I have been unable to locate the exact patent, though if anyone recognises it I would be interested to know whose it is. I have searched the online patents database but the Swiss patent of this number (20254) was taken out around 1910 for an explorers utility vest! The watch measures 48mm in diameter or 62mm tall to the top of the winding crown and 14mm deep. It is stem wound and set.   A very desirable solid gold THOMAS RUSSELL Patent Centre Seconds Chronograph pocket watch for your collection. Do not miss it for a bid!! The winning bidder will not be disappointed!  Have a go and GOOD LUCK!!     ……………………~~~~~////~~~~~……………………….   Important information:   Given the number of fake and scam bidders please note the following protocols; Bidders with feedback of -1 or more than 2 unpaid item strikes in the past 30 days are automatically barred from bidding on this item. If you are new to eBay or have LESS THAN 10 FEEDBACK please CONTACT ME if you wish to bid. All I need is a brief courtesy email telling me who you are and how you would intend to pay if you where successful. Any suspicious bids will be cancelled.  I have had a spate of ‘new’ eBay members who have either failed to make contact or pay for items after winning them so I am afraid these precautions are necessary to protect us all from these thoughtless individuals. If you use a bidsnipe programme to 'win' this item, have less than 10 feedback and have not contacted me as requested then I will offer the item to the underbidder if they have met these requirements. I don’t give cash change to a fake money order either. If you’re thinking about scamming this one don’t.  Any suspicious activity will be reported to eBay and the Police. I do not guarentee the future timekeeping or watertightness of any antique timepieces.   Postage Due to abuse of Paypals chargeback system I now only ship by insured and registered mail. UK bidders ; 1st class recorded delivery £7. The next day Special Delivery with cover to £2500 will be £10. If you opt for an under-value insured postal option then you must accept all responsibility in doing so. Overseas buyers; Royal Mail offer the ‘International Signed For’  with maximum insurance to £500 which would be £10.50.  UPS can ship most items fully insured for around £70 depending on size and weight.  If you opt for an under-value insured postal option then you must accept all responsibility in doing so.   Please be aware that the majority of courier / postal services will not insure ‘antiques’ or ‘watches’ in the small print! I have only ever had two packages go missing in my hundreds of transactions on eBay. Both of these where ‘lost’ going to America and Royal mail paid out in full on both although it took about 8 weeks. This piece will be sent in a substantially oversized box so the chances of it being ‘lost’ in the back of a postal van can be minimised.   Paypal: I can only accept Paypal payments by agreement to verified addresses.     Cheques: Unless you are known to me the goods will only be posted / delivered once payment has cleared. I can accept cheques in other currencies subject to a banking surcharge of £12 and exchange rate commensurate with that which my bank is buying the currency and not selling it. (For instance, GBP to USD exchange rates. Barclays where ‘buying’ USD at 2 to the GBP and ‘selling’ them at 1.92 to the GBP.) Foreign cheques take up to 31 days in which to clear.     As ever, if you have any questions or concerns please CONTACT ME!         Powered by eBay Turbo Lister
