CASE: The case to this beautiful and supremely rare watch is fully hall marked solid SILVER. The case is in good condition showing some dings and wear (which you would expect for a watch of some 180 years old). I have gently polished it, and it is shining wonderfully. The back has a lightly worn personalization.THE WATCH MEASURES 5.2CMS IN DIAMETER. The hinges for the front, and back opening of the pair case are working beautifully, and show no signs of abuse. The polished and shining inside of the smaller pair case cover is hall marked for solid silver, dating the watch to 1828 (London). There is cause to believe that the outer case and inner case are not matched. The watch and movement weigh a heavy 107 grams. DIAL: This watch has one of the most fantastic and stunning dials on a pocket watch that I have seen for some time. It is in excellent condition for its 180 years of age with only some light hairlines, and very slight wear. This beautifully finished hand painted dial is absolutely amazing. It has a beautiful and colourful country scene expertly painted onto it, with a young girl and boy casting a look backwards at the babbling brook running in the foreground. The colours are crisp and the work that has gone into this dial is superb!. This is an original work of art, and NOT painted on after some years later as is the case with more inferior watches. The black painted Roman numerals are in excellent condition and are very clear, as is the RARE and UNUSUAL 60 MIN outer track, which is in the form of ‘arches’ running around it. This really is a beautiful, and excellent condition dial worthy to grace any museum display of horological history! The glass ‘bulls eye’ crystal, is original and shows some light normal wear, and an edge chip between 3 and 4 o'clock. The golden spade design watch hands look to be THE ORIGINALS (WHICH IS EXTREMELY RARE FOR A WATCH OF THIS AGE) and are a strikingly beautiful. This is a supremely rare, and very fine pocket watch.   MOVEMENT: This is a lovely gilt signed early verge fusee front opening movement. It is fully signed, and reads ‘Sam Harlow Ashbury’. It is numbered 329. The movement runs well when wound, but has not been tested for timekeeping, although Verge Fusee watches could lose or gain up to 30 mins per day. It started to tick after one turn of the key It winds smoothly, and the key setting works as it should. It has a highly engraved balance cock. There is a repair to the hinge holding the case to the movement. The crown and chain ring are in good order. A key will be supplied, so that the watch can be used straight away if required.
