Recommendations for the owner of antique watches: 1. All Antique watches are mechanical. 2. Antique watches are generally NOT waterproof. This is because waterproofing was not in general production until the middle of the 20th century for most watches. Therefore you should protect your antique watch from exposure to moisture. 3. If your watch becomes wet it should be dried off quickly. Carefully open all covers and use a hair drier to blow dry the movement, dial, covers, crown. This will reduce the amount of rust. 4. When adjusting the hands of your watch, move them in a clockwise direction only. Counter-clockwise adjustments may damage the movement. 5. If you must adjust counter-clockwise make it for small adjustments only (i.e. for minutes, NOT hours). 6. Every 2-3 years it is necessary to service and oil vintage watches. 7. To clean the case, dial and crystal you should use a cloth that does NOT leave fibers as these may get caught up in the movement. Check with your Watch repair expert to get an appropriate cloth. 8. Keep your antiques watch away from magnets. Strong magnetic fields may affect the accuracy of your watch since some vintage watches were made with iron based components in the movement. 9. Most Cases and Covers are fine components and will not handle abuse well. The watch should not be shaken, beaten, or stressed. 10. Antique watches generally experience an error of up to 5-7 minutes a day. Any accuracy of +- 5 minutes is very good.z Georges-Emile Eberhard was born at Saint-Imier, Switzerland, in 1865. Being a watchmaker, his father initiated him to all the secrets of the watchmaker's art so that it took little more than two decades for him to become the founder of a veritable manufactory, La Manufacture d'Horlogerie Eberhard & Co. in La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 1919, the founder's sons Georges and Maurice Eberhard take charge of the "Maison". The same year sees the launching of the most advanced wrist chronograph of the era. In 1935 the company gives birth to a new chronograph that features two push-buttons for stopping and starting again without setting to zero, and in 1939 the evolution continues with the "Rattrapante" chronograph, enabling a double timekeeping. After World War II, the company resumes its activities, now venturing out also into the market for ladies' watches. Toward the end of the '50s, Eberhard & Co. presents its "Extra-Fort" model with a pushbutton for stopping and starting the seconds count. The '60s are primarily marked by the introduction of a simultaneous date setting device. In 1968, Chronometers by Eberhard & Co. enter into a new era as movements performing 36,000 vibrations per hour now warrant an improved measure of precision. In the early '80s, Eberhard & Co. take pride in being the Swiss company that is launching once again a mechanical chronograph in the market: "Replica". Based on studies and research work conducted in cooperation with P.A.N. Frecce Tricolori, the company creates in 1984 its "Chronomaster Frecce Tricolori". In 1987 to celebrate the first century of its history, Eberhard & Co. presents the Navymaster chronographs collection. In 1992 the "Maison" launches a collection dedicated to the greatest racetrack champion of all times, "Tazio Nuvolari". In the middle of the ‘90 the company focuses on "king-size" wrist watches, introducing extremely successful models such as the Traversetolo (43 mm), the Tazio Nuvolari "Grande Taille" (43 mm) and the Tazio Nuvolari Rattrapante "Géant" (51 mm). In 1997 it achieves another great innovation: the "8 Days", a manually winding mechanical watch that needs to be rewound every eight days only. In 2001, Eberhard & Co. revolutionizes chronograph read-off with the Chrono 4: the first chronograph in the history of watchmaking whose counters are arranged in one row. Always in search of innovation, the company remains nevertheless true to its own tradition. The most recent example is the "Tazio Nuvolari Vanderbilt Cup" chronograph (2003), where a dedication to technical progress and an exquisite nostalgia for historical details are perfectly combined.
