Description
PATEK PHILIPPE / T****** 5MIN REPEATER POCKET WATCH ****MAKE SURE YOU CHECK MY OTHER AUCTIONS and eBay SHOP ITEMS**** LOTS OF PICTURES FURTHER DOWN, SCROLL TO VIEW NOTE :- I DO NOT NORMALLY ACCEPT PAYPAL FOR AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF £2000 GBP, HOWEVER, EBAY'S LATEST WHEEZE IS TO FORCE SELLERS TO ACCEPT PAYPAL ON ALL LISTINGS ..... SINCE THE BUY NOW PRICE EXCEEDS THE AMOUNT THAT MAY BE PAID FOR VIA PAYPAL IN THE UK, YOU MAY FIND THAT YOU CAN'T USE PAYPAL TO PAY, SO IF YOU BID ON THIS WATCH AND FIND THAT TO BE THE CASE, YOU WILL NEED TO BE ABLE TO PAY BY CHEQUE, BANK DRAFT, DIRECT PAYMENT OR WIRE TRANSFER TO MY UK BANK ACCOUNT IN GB POUNDS..... I DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS OTHER THAN THROUGH PAYPAL. ********************************************************************************* BRIEF DESCRIPTION HERE ........ MORE DETAIL BELOW ****THIS IS A VERY RARE WATCH**** THIS WAS PREVIOUSLY LISTED IN AUCTION FORMAT BUT I COMMITTED THE GRAVE EBAY CRIME OF INCLUDING AN INDICATION THAT I WOULD SELL TO THE HIGHEST OFFER FOR WHICH THE LISTING WAS REMOVED....... SO IT IS NOW LISTED AT FIXED PRICE WITH OFFERS ENABLED....WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! Note that eBay are currently blocking listings with reference to a famous jeweller. This watch is signed several times by that famous jeweller and you can read the name yourself by looking at the pictures. IT IS 100% GENUINE, an Antique item and dates from around 1900. This is a beautiful and extremely fine example of an Ultra High Grade FIVE MINUTE REPEATER pocket watch from around 1900 in A SUBSTANTIAL SOLID PINK GOLD CASE. The watch is triple signed T****** & Co on the case, movement and dial but was almost certainly made for them by Patek Philippe. As well as being in a PINK GOLD case, it also has an extremely unusual POLISHED SOLID GOLD DIAL. PLEASE NOTE :- The polished gold dial on this watch made it the most difficult watch I have ever had to photograph ..... I have included several views of the dial, but the reflections kept fooling the light meter on the camera. .... read on for full details..... **************************************************************** DETAILED DESCRIPTION THE MOVEMENT is an ultra high grade FIVE MINUTE REPEATER which is signed T****** & CO NEW YORK......however, I am fairly certain it was made for them by Patek Philippe, see page 550 of the 2007 Complete Price Guide for a Patek repeater made for T******. I have also included a picture of the under dial area which also reveals the same number as the top plate and the gold case indicating they have always been together. The movement plates are nickel or rhodium finished and in superb condition. Gilded gear train. Jewel count is at least 29jewels and may be higher, some in screwed in gold settings, others pressed in. All visible screws are brightly polished steel. The clickwork is all fine. The regulator utilises a swing pointer for precision adjustment. The balance is bimetallic compensation type with gold screws. Polished steel gongs and two hammers as shown in one of the photographs. The watch works in all positions, and keeps excellent time but timekeeping and reliability are not warrantied due to the age of the piece. The watch is wound and set by the crown and ticks away quite happily without any encouragement. The Repeat Element is activated by a gold slide in the band at the 4 o'clock position. It strikes the Hours with a single strike from one hammer, followed by the number of elapsed 5 minutes since the hour with the second hammer. The watch strikes the hours and elapsed 5 minutes with the correct count for all settings and is in perfect working order. THE DIAL is extremely unusual, solid polished gold, signed T****** & CO and in what I would describe as NEAR MINT condition......the dial on its own weighs 15.8 grammes which is around HALF A TROY OUNCE...... There are some minor surface swirls due to the softness of gold, but that is all. The hours are marked with stylised Arabic numerals in black with the minute ring simply marked with black lines .... I do think that the dial when the numbers and signature were applied was canted a degree left .... look at the dial pictures to see this..... The ordinary running seconds are indicated by the subsidiary dial at 6 o'clock. The hands are all in excellent condition, pink gold and the seconds hand is a beautifully finished arrow design. It was very difficult to accurately picture the dial due to the reflection of the gold, so there are several views shown. THE CRYSTAL on the front of the watch is in excellent condition. The crystal in the exposition cuvette is acrylic. THE CASE is SOLID PINK GOLD and signed T****** & CO NEW YORK. The hallmark is very small and rubbed, so treat it as 14K solid, even though it is probably 18K. It bears the same number as the movement.....the pictures don't really show the colour as it really is a beautiful pink gold colour. The bow is a slightly different shade to the rest of the case so may have been replaced, but is also solid gold. The crown is in excellent condition. The gold slide is also in excellent condition. The case is plain polished all over and there are no initials outside. The name Wm. W. Heaton is engraved inside the rear cover. All hinges are firm and the front bezel, rear cover and cuvette are all hinged and close as they should. The cuvette is exposition type and has been fitted with an acrylic 'crystal' to permit the movement to be viewed whilst excluding dust. Diameter excluding crown is 46mm. Gramme weight of assembled watch is 87 grammes approx. The case on it's own is 40 grammes. IN SUMMARY a MAGNIFICENT FIVE MINUTE REPEATER POCKET WATCH from around 1900 signed by T****** & CO which is in a SOLID PINK GOLD case with a most unusual polished solid gold dial .... and which was almost certainly made for them by Patek Philippe !!! DON'T MISS OUT. Note Regarding Paypal Payments. Ebay now require sellers to accept Paypal for all listings, however, if you pay by Paypal and I am unhappy about the Paypal transaction in any way, I will reject your payment and cancel the transaction. I will continue to do this until ebay indemnify all sellers aginst all losses arising from abuse of the Paypal system by fraudulent buyers. On conclusion of the auction, payment may be made by Paypal (but see above note ), cheque, bankers draft, postal or money order, direct payment or wire transfer into my UK bank account, details of which will be given to the winning bidder on request. THE AUCTION IS TRANSACTED IN GB POUNDS AND THAT IS THE ONLY CURRENCY IN WHICH PAYMENT IS ACCEPTED. Unless there is prior agreement, payment MUST be received within 14 days of close of auction or the item will first be offered to the second place bidder before being relisted. Items paid for by cheque will not be shipped until payment has cleared or you have a 100% feedback rating in excess of 50, in which case goods will be shipped immediately at my discretion. My rates for insured shipping and cost of secure packaging assuming a packed weight not greater than 500g are....... £ 7.50 GB Pounds Next Day Special Delivery within the United Kingdom £ 10.50 GB Pounds rest of the World International Signed For. Delivery 7 to 14 working days usually. I HAVE NEVER HAD A ROYAL MAIL INTERNATIONAL SIGNED FOR PACKET GO ASTRAY IN 6 YEARS OF SENDING THOUSANDS OF WATCHES ACROSS THE GLOBE ....... ***************************************** PREMIUM INTERNATIONAL or EXPRESS DELIVERIES PLEASE NOTE :- I no longer offer premium express mail services for international deliveries as standard but will provide quotes on request. This is due to the fact that prices have increased to an unacceptably high level and also, NO ONE in the Express business and I mean NO ONE offers insurance on watches shipped internationally if their value exceeds about £ 100 and in some cases, this figure is much less. It is also the case that if the value of a watch is declared on the customs slip to exceed this figure, then officially, the company can refuse to handle it. So, if you want it fast, then you can have it, but it won't be fully insured by the courier. Some companies will actually sell insurance above this level, but if you check their small print, they will not pay out in respect of watches valued above this figure. I don't care if your local shipping office tells you they do, because I have checked all of them and they don't !!!. ( FEDEX, DHL, PARCELFORCE, UPS, ETC ETC ) So I suggest that you ensure you have your own insurance cover in place if purchasing high value watches and you may also wish to enquire why some sellers charge enormous amounts for insurance which is not actually valid. I will not enter into pointless communication with people who tell me that their local shipper does offer insurance on valuable watches as clearly, they don't know what they are talking about......... so don't bother E mailing me on the subject as I will just delete it. ***************************************** DON'T WORRY TOO MUCH THOUGH BECAUSE AS STATED ABOVE I HAVE NEVER HAD A ROYAL MAIL INTERNATIONAL SIGNED FOR PACKET GO ASTRAY IN 6 YEARS OF SENDING THOUSANDS OF WATCHES ACROSS THE GLOBE. NOTE ...... The delivery times above are from me getting the packed item to the shipping depot or Post Office ...... not from when you pay. I generally ship the day after cleared payment is received. I DO COMBINE MULTIPLE ITEMS TO REDUCE SHIPPING COSTS, BUT SOMETIMES HAVE TO SLIGHTLY INCREASE CHARGES DEPENDING ON WEIGHT. THESE RATES ARE NOT NEGOTIABLE AND WILL BE ADDED TO THE WINNING BID FOR THE TOTAL AMOUNT DUE......... I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO INCREASE THE CHARGES DUE TO ANY UNUSUAL SHIPPING REQUESTS OR IF THE ITEM IS OF PARTICULARLY HIGH VALUE.......... ANY EXTRA CHARGES WILL ONLY BE THOSE CHARGED TO ME BY THE POST OFFICE.......... I DO NOT PROFITEER FROM SHIPPING RATES ! I accept returns within 14 days of receipt only if the item is found to differ SIGNIFICANTLY from the item listing and if it is returned EXACTLY AS SUPPLIED, IF AND ONLY IF THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF DISMANTLING WHATSOEVER. My items are however accurately described, so if you do not want it, do not bid for it. I do not refund postage charges and I do not pay customs fees or local taxes for which you are liable. I do not run an approval service. Thank you. Who am I and what are my credentials ? ..... I am a very enthusiastic collector of watches living in England. I have over 30 years of experience and am particularly interested in highly stylised Art Deco watches. I am also a trained engineer and so appreciate watches of complex and fine manufacture of whatever era. Almost all of the watches I offer for sale were originally part of my collection or purchased for the sake of study. I occasionally sell items on behalf of close friends who are not quite up to speed with eBay or who are just too busy to sell for themselves. I also have an avid interest in precious metals and gemstones and my studies in these fields are extensive and ongoing. I provide extremely detailed and honest descriptions of the items I offer for sale. I have hundreds of repeat customers across the Globe and aim to make your eBay experience as enjoyable as possible regardless of the size of transaction. Restoration Policy ...... my restoration policy is quite simple..... I don't !!!!. To me a restored thing is a new thing and not to my liking. Unless there is no other option ( i.e. the item is regarded as 'too far gone' ) , I do not ever restore items that I place for sale as I would rather the eventual decision whether to restore or not rests with the final owner. Some people totally destroy hundreds of years of history just so they can offer a visually perfect item for sale. To me, imperfections and patina are what antiques and vintage items are all about, so the items you buy from me may have had a light clean if necessary, but that is all. Any defects listed are to be taken as guides and not considered as exhaustive. If you want to contact me, please use the 'E mail seller' link near the top right of the listing. I will generally get back to you within 24 hours unless the answer to your question is contained in the listing....in which case I may not !!.
